Durinar Trek : Trekking through the meadows and lakes!

An enchanting and memorable Durinar trek through the alpine lakes and lush green meadows


Overview

Previously unknown, the Durinar is the highest Alpine lake in Kashmir province. It provides a panoramic view of the valley, a sight that will etched in your mind forever.The trek will be covered in 6 days and you will get to visit many underrated and unvisited lakes and meadows. It is a moderate trek but a little prior experience in high altitude trekking will help you. Following is a detailed itinerary at your disposal to make your trek easier and structured.

Srinagar - Sarbal village - Durinar lake - Granite rock - Bear Valley – Sonmarg

Highest Peak

The highest peak of the Durinar Lake trek is 13,800 “ft” which is a moderate level trek route.

Srinagar to Sarbal village

From Srinagar, the Sarbal is at a distance of 3.5 hours which can be travelled by taxicab.


Trek Itinerary

Day 1 : Arriving at the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir

On the first day, you will arrive at Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Our representative will receive you at the airport and escort you to your hotel or houseboat in Srinagar. You will have your meals there and retire for the night.


Day 2 : Reaching the Sarbal village

On the second day, the expedition starts. You will have your breakfast and start for Sarbal village. From Sarbal village you will start trekking to reach the Durinar Meadow. The trail will take upto 3 hours to cover. Surrounded by snow-clad mountains from all sides, the view that you will get will be breath-taking.


Day 3 : Arriving at the enchanting Durinar lake

On the third day, you will start your day early as you will have to trek for almost five hours to reach your destination, the Durinar Lake. The trail is going to be adventurous as a little steep. Once you are done climbing the steep ascend, you will be warmly welcomed by an enchanting clear blue lake over Granite rock. You will spend your night at a camp set up there.


Day 4 : Exploring the upper realms of the Bear Valley

Your aim of the day will be to reach the upper realms of the Bear Valley. The bear valley draws its name from the availability of the brown bear among other animals like snow leopard, Kashmiri stags and others. This valley is also the part of a Wildlife sanctuary, open to visitors at all times, give you even more reason to explore this beauty. This valley is the abode to six alpine lakes of the Thajiwas range. It is also houses to the meadow of Zabnar which is covered by snow-clad mountains on both sides.


Day 5 : Exploring adventure sports in Sonmarg

You will wake up early and start trekking through the bear valley. After trekking for almost 4-5 hours you will reach the mesmerizing place, Sonmarg. It is considered as adventure destination in itself. You can undertake several adventure sports in Sonmarg like Whitewater rafting, Skiing and other activities.


Day 6 : End of the expedition and departure

The sixth day marks the official end of your trek. You will go back to Srinagar on this day and will be escorted to the airport by our representative. You will depart with a head full of memories of a picturesque and enchanting trek.
